After eight months in construction, the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is now home to the new $14.5 million Cardup Fire Station, providing a major boost to emergency services in a fast-growing region.
Strategically located in Cardup, the station is staffed 24/7 by 36 career firefighters, ensuring rapid response to fires, rescues, and other emergencies. With the Shire’s population increasing by more than 80 per cent over the past decade—and further growth expected with the expansion of Tonkin Highway and METRONET to Byford—this new facility plays a crucial role in meeting rising demand for emergency services.
The new station has been designed for full-time crews, featuring soundproof dorm rooms, a fully equipped gym, and a two-storey training tower to maintain peak fitness and readiness. The modern layout ensures firefighters can be out the door in under 90 seconds when an emergency call comes through.

While the new station strengthens emergency response, volunteer brigades remain essential to community safety. The Shire’s dedicated volunteer firefighters have been the backbone of local emergency response for decades and will continue to play a crucial role, particularly in bushfire response. The new facility is expected to complement the work of volunteers, providing additional resources and support to ensure the best possible protection for the region.
The Cardup Fire Station marks an important step forward in ensuring SJ remains well-prepared for emergencies, now and into the future.
