Supporting small business
The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is committed to helping local businesses having signed the Small Business Friendly Local Government Charter in March, 2020.
An initiative of the Small Business Development Corporation, the Charter demonstrates the Shire’s commitment to supporting its local small business community.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics data revealed there were more than 2000 small businesses operating in the Shire representing a range of diverse industries which play a significant role in the local community and economy.
Businesses create local employment, provide essential goods and services and contribute to Serpentine Jarrahdale being an attractive and liveable place to live.
By committing to the Small Business Friendly Local Government Charter, the Shire will continue to work in partnership with small businesses to support them to grow and prosper.
The Shire currently works closely with the Peel Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other local business groups including Business SJ and the Byford Innovation & Business Development Centre to facilitate business training and staff development for local business owners and their teams.
Activities being delivered by the Shire to support small business, which align to the Charter, include:
- Business networking events in collaboration with the Peel Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Business SJ
- Online local business directory on the Shire’s website
- Information sessions about the Shire’s tendering and procurement processes
- Business information and resources on the Shire’s website
