CCTV Subsidy Program

The Shire is providing residents and businesses with a one-off payment to subsidise the cost of new CCTV installations or upgraded systems from 2 September 2024 until 30 June 2025, or whenever funding runs out. Our CCTV Subsidy Program aims to increase a sense of safety and security within the Shire. It is an opt-in voluntary program for applicants who meet the terms and conditions for eligibility.

Residents and businesses can apply to receive a subsidy of up to $500 for professionally installed CCTV, or up to $300 for DIY installations.

You must complete the pre-eligibility form (which will be live on Monday, 2 September) before purchasing or installing the CCTV.

FAQs

Can I install my own CCTV system?

Yes. We offer a 30% grant up to a maximum of $300 for DIY (self-installed) CCTV systems, provided that all other eligibility requirements are met.

I already have CCTV; can I still claim the subsidy?

The CCTV Subsidy Program is available for newly installed systems or upgrades to existing ones. If you already have a CCTV system and want to claim the subsidy, it must have been purchased and installed after September 2, 2024. Additionally, the installation or upgrade of your CCTV system must occur after receiving approval through the pre-eligibility form to qualify for funding.

The Shire encourages those with existing CCTV who aren’t eligible to apply for the CCTV Subsidy Program, to register with Cam-Map WA for a chance to win a voucher. (Does not apply to those who have applied for the subsidy program).

I have a Seniors WA card; if I apply for the Shire's CCTV Subsidy Program, can I also apply for the Seniors WA Safety and Security Rebate?

Yes. Our subsidy is not linked to the rebate offered by Seniors WA. Please refer to their website for information on the Safety and Security Rebate.

I live in a rear property. Can I apply for the subsidy?

No. Applicants must have at least one public-facing camera to be eligible.

Can I apply for the subsidy if my rates are in arrears?

No. Applicants cannot have a current outstanding debt with the Shire.

What brand of CCTV is best?

This is entirely your choice. There are many options to suit your budget and needs that will also meet the minimum technical requirements.

What are the minimum technical requirements?

The public-facing camera of the CCTV system must meet the following minimum technical requirements:

  • 21 days constant recording
  • Night capable
  • 1080 full HD (for public-facing cameras)

Do we require a licensed security installer to install CCTV?

There are two methods of installation (professional installation and DIY installation) that are part of the subsidy program. If your system is hardwired, or you're engaging a professional to install your CCTV system, they must be a licensed security installer, as per the Surveillance Devices Act 1998.

What are the privacy regulations surrounding CCTV systems?

Please refer to the Surveillance Devices Act 1998 for guidelines around installation and privacy.

What is Cam-Map WA?

Cam-Map WA is a website to register public-facing cameras and it is essential that you register your CCTV system to be eligible for the subsidy. By registering your CCTV system, police will be able to efficiently locate public-facing cameras during investigations, respond more effectively to any incidents that may arise, and collect CCTV evidence to maintain a safe community.
