The Emergency Support Brigade (ESB) is calling for new volunteers to join its dedicated team. Based in the Metro South East region, the ESB plays an important role in responding to emergencies across Western Australia. These can include incidents such as bushfires, floods, storms, cyclones, as well as search and rescue operations.
ESB members provide crucial support to the Incident Management Team (IMT), helping coordinate response efforts, gathering information, managing radio communications, and helping with incident mapping and logistics. They’re also responsible for operating the Shire’s Incident Control Vehicle (ICV)—a mobile command center that’s equipped with advanced technology, including networked computers, radios, and satellite communications.
Who can join?
The ESB is looking for committed volunteers who meet the following criteria:
✔️ Aged 16 years or over
✔️ Able to obtain a police clearance
✔️ Willing to undertake weekly training & respond to incidents
✔️ Able to follow instructions & work in a team
✔️ Strong communication skills
✔️ Proficient in technology use
✔️ Emergency Services experience is welcome but not needed as full training will be provided.
Training will include:
✔️ Radio operation and communication
✔️ Incident mapping (FES Maps training)
✔️ Bushfire safety awareness
✔️ Basic firefighting skills
