The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale was recently recognised with a Volunteer Employer Recognition Award (VERA) at the 2024 VERA Ceremony, hosted by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA.
The event, held celebrated 82 businesses, organisations, and self-employed volunteers from across the state for their support of emergency services volunteers, marking a significant increase from last year’s 57 recipients.
Recipients within the Metro South East region include:

- Curtin University - Faculty of Science & Engineering
- Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries - Recreation Camps
- John Sample Group
- John Wollaston Anglican Community School
- OMNI GeoX
- Water Corporation - Bushfire Mitigation
Emergency Services Minister Stephen Dawson highlighted the importance of this event in acknowledging workplaces that enable their staff to respond to emergencies during work hours. Now in its 16th year, the awards also honour self-employed volunteers who often put their businesses on hold to serve the community.
