More than 200 dog owners and their four-legged friends attended the official opening and naming of the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s new dedicated dog park in Byford on January 17.
The official opening and naming of Byford Bark Park was held in conjunction with the Shire’s annual Paws in the Park event and featured free pet behaviour advice, a free sausage sizzle, doggie goodie bag giveaway and the dog park naming competition winner announcement.
Early last year, the Shire asked residents to submit their dog park name suggestions as part of a name competition for the new park, with more than 140 ideas put forward.
At the event, Shire President Cr Michelle Rich announced that Natalie Millman of Byford was randomly drawn as the lucky winner of the $500 prize.
Cr Rich congratulated Ms Millman thanked everyone who turned out for the Paws in the Park event.
“Since the new dog park was opened to the public last November, it has been extremely popular and well utilised by our local community,” Cr Rich said.
“The Paws in the Park event wa s a great opportunity for us to celebrate this new public open space and thank our community who have played an important role in prioritising and designing this park.”
The $468,000 park was funded entirely by developer contributions and features two fenced off sections, one for small dogs and one for large dogs, with shade, seating and agility equipment.
