A re-dedication ceremony was held at the Jarrahdale Memorial to mark the 100th anniversary of the memorial unveiling on Friday, 10 February 2023.
The memorial was erected to remember fallen soldiers of the district.
Through the tireless efforts of the Jarrahdale community and volunteers, the Jarrahdale Memorial has been refreshed over the past few years, including:
- Steel silhouettes representing the armed forces, with framed cut-outs decorated by Aboriginal artist Mel Spillman
- Wooden steps reframed in Jarrah and the addition of a hand rail to make the memorial more accessible
- A poppy for every service person that gave their lives adorning the hand rail that leads up to the memorial
- Solar lighting illuminating the service men at rest
- A small hedge of rosemary is a reminder of far-off lands
Thank you to the Jarrahdale community for organising today’s re-dedication ceremony and providing an opportunity for the local community to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
