The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Council has endorsed a business case for a dedicated health centre to be located in the heart of Byford.

At its February Ordinary Council Meeting, Council endorsed the Byford Health Hub Business Case, which identified the urgent need for a centralised community health facility located in the heart of the fastest growing area of Western Australia.

In identifying the ideal location, Council gave in-principle support for the Byford Health Hub to be located on the Shire’s Civic Reserve, adjacent to the Byford Village Shopping Centre and directly opposite the future Byford METRONET station.

Locals will be able to visit their community facility for potential health services including extended GP hours and Urgent Care, psychology, adult and child mental health, optometry, and dental services.

The Byford Health Hub is one of the Shire’s 2021 WA State Election Priorities and Requests, which aims to maximise investment from all levels of government across a range of priorities.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the Shire looked forward to working with the major political parties contesting the 2021 WA State election to secure funding commitments to further progress the project.

“The Serpentine Jarrahdale Council continues to work hard in advocating for community needs with all parties running in the State Election, so we can continue to grow a healthier community, together,” Cr Rich said.

Cr Rich said the Byford Health Hub was critical to support the Shire’s growing population, particularly young families and children.

“As Western Australia’s fastest-growing local government area, it’s imperative we can meet the growing healthcare needs of our community,” Cr Rich said.

“In much the same way as government-led health hubs have been developed across metropolitan Perth, including Mandurah and Cockburn, and other Australian cities to help deliver required health services to growing communities, the proposed Byford Health Hub will provide a range of much-needed public and private health services for residents.”

The Shire acknowledges Urbis, who assisted in the business case development, and the Peel Development Commission, who provided grant funding for the business case.

The Shire also acknowledges the work of East Metropolitan Health Service, Child and Adolescent Health Service and WA Primary Health Alliance which all provided information and input to understand the Shire’s health needs assessment and to develop the business case options analysis.
