Service people, veterans, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice, will be honoured at the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s Anzac Day commemoration on 25 April, at Mundijong War Memorial.
This year marks the 110th anniversary of the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915, during the First World War.
More than 2,000 ANZACs were killed on that day alone, with 11,488 losing their lives during the campaign.
Since then, more than 1.5 million Australians have served in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations to defend our country and shared values.
Beginning at 5:50am, the Serpentine Jarrahdale RSL sub-branch, in collaboration with the Shire, will host a Dawn Service, followed by a community gunfire breakfast.
A Processional March will form up at 8:30am, with a Commemorative Service at 9am and a complementary morning tea to follow.
Shire President Rob Coales said that Anzac Day was a deeply important occasion and a day for reflection for the Shire.
“Anzac Day is an opportunity for us to come together each year as a community and pay tribute to the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of the men and women who served and those who continue to serve our country,” President Coales said.
“The ANZACs played a significant role in shaping our nation by instilling a sense of pride, mateship and unity.
“Their sacrifice helped secure the freedoms and peace that generations after them are lucky enough to live and prosper in.
“We’re proud to work alongside the Serpentine Jarrahdale RSL sub-branch to ensure that Shire residents can participate in this important day with dignity, respect and community spirit.”
