The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has welcomed the announcement that the WA Liberal Party will commit $500,000 towards upgrades to the Shire’s fire stations, should they be elected at the 2025 State election.
The Shire has six volunteer fire stations which is home to seven brigades and more than 200 volunteer fire fighters.
The funding will enable the Shire to deliver urgent improvements to Byford Fire Station, including change rooms, modernised toilet and shower facilities, and expanded storage facilities for essential fire fighting equipment.
Shire President Rob Coales welcomed the announcement and said volunteer fire fighters were the Shire’s unsung heroes.
“It’s fantastic news that the WA Liberal Party has identified the need for upgrades to the Shire’s volunteer fire brigade stations,” President Coales said.
The Shire is now calling on the WA Labor Party and WA National Party to commit funding for volunteer fire brigade stations in the Shire.
“It’s critical that we provide the infrastructure that will keep our volunteers safe, give them the space they need to operate effectively and ensure that morale is high,” President Coales said.
“As this week’s major bushfire in Byford has shown, our volunteers do a fantastic job, always going above and beyond to protect our communities.
“Upgrades to fire stations will ensure that we can continue to attract and retain volunteer firefighters, and show that they are valued.”
Upgrades to the Shire’s fire stations has been endorsed by the Shire Council as an advocacy project.
