Working together to reduce the risk of bushfire was in spotlight as Serpentine residents came together with Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Emergency Services personnel for a special Meet and Greet Event off Salmon Bark Road last Friday, 29 September 2023.
The event was a chance for the approximately 50 residents who attended to engage with a wide range of bushfire experts and learn more about how they can best prepare their properties for the threat of fire this summer.
Visual demonstrations were carried out by professionals on the night, displaying effective ways to respond to emergency situations.
The event was held in collaboration between the Serpentine Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, Serpentine Jarrahdale Emergency Support Brigade, Serpentine Jarrahdale Bushfire Awareness Team and the Shire’s Emergency Services Department.
Serpentine Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade Captain Scott Jones said it was a great example of a local community and bushfire volunteers working together on emergency preparedness.
“To all the residents who attended, thank you for your ongoing commitment to your shared responsibility commitments in the lead up to this fire season,” Mr Jones said.
“We look forward to hosting more of these community street meets to promote bushfire readiness in the future.”
Community engagement ahead of bushfire season will continue at Mundijong Oval this Friday, 6 October, as the Shire hosts its Community Night Festival.
The festival will follow a Community Safety theme, with Emergency Services personnel in attendance.
