Lesley Driscoll was recognised as a part of the Shire’s Volunteer Recognition Program for her hard work with the Byford Baptist Church. Lesley received a $50 voucher to a restaurant of her choice located within the Shire.
We asked Lesley a few questions about her experience volunteering:
How did you get involved in volunteering for your club/group?
It is through a program run through the Byford Baptist Church that I became aware of the food market outreach in the local community.
How long have you been involved in volunteering?
Since my early 20s I have volunteered with a number of different organisations.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
The friends I have made and feeling like you are making a difference to people's lives has also inspired me to volunteer.
What makes your club/group special to you?
The Byford Baptist food market is made up of a large team of volunteers who are more like a family and they turn up nearly every week to help others. We would be one of the few charity organisations that never has a roster and turns helpers away. We make a difference to so many local families by giving food boxes out and are available to listen to their needs if they want to talk.
Why would you recommend others to get involved in volunteering?
Volunteering enriches your life mentally and physically.
