Jackie Beales was recognised as a part of the Shire’s Volunteer Recognition Program for her hard work with Graceford Baptistcare. Jackie received a $100 voucher to a restaurant of her choice located within the Shire.
We asked Jackie a few questions about her experience volunteering:
How did you get involved volunteering for your group?
I got involved with Graceford Baptist Care when my Mother, Jean Fraser, became a resident back in 2005. She was there for four years. When she passed away, I missed all the other residents so much I decided to go and volunteer.
How long have you been involved in volunteering?
I have been volunteering since then for 11 years.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I enjoy every single group we participate in. There are so many different activities. I do Chair Aerobics, Quizzes, Word Games, Coffee Club, Scrabble, Bingo and many others. I also run a little kiosk with lollies and little treats for residents. During football season we also have a footy tipping competition. It is always lovely to just sit and have a chat with someone.
What makes your group special to you?
Graceford is a very lovely place with lovely staff and lovely people who live there. Everyone is very special.
Why would you recommend others to get involved in volunteering?
I would strongly recommend for anyone with some extra time to get involved because it fills your life with happiness being able to help others.
