Exciting projects on the horizon for our community in 2024

It was a big year in 2023 and we’ve got even more great projects and initiatives in store for our community throughout 2024. Here are a few:

 

We’re continuing our investment in local roads:

  • Mundijong Road/King Road intersection
  • Kingsbury Drive
  • Hopeland Road
  • Jarrahdale Road
  • Gossage Road
  • Baskerville Road
  • Tuart Road
  • Adonis Street footpath
  • Richardson Street footpath
  • Abernethy Road tree planting
  • Byford Skate Park Stage 2
  • Soldiers Road
  • Kargotich Road Stage 2 
  • Orton Road

 

We’re investing in community facilities:

  • Facility renewals at the SJ Community Recreation Centre
  • Progressing detailed design and construction of the new Oakford Volunteer Brigade Station
  • Progressing Stage 1A of the Keirnan Park Sporting and Recreation Precinct Project
  • Upgrades to the SJ Youth Space 

 

Growing a greener SJ through:

  • Solar energy investment at the SJ Community Recreation Centre
  • New green waste verge collection and pre-booked bulk waste collection services
  • Investment in weed and dieback control in natural reserves
  • Updating our Climate Change Strategy
  • Participation in Waterwise Council program
  • Investment in and delivery of Free Verge Plants Program and Free Street Tree Program
  • Investment in and support of Landcare SJ Inc and Switch your thinking
  • Protection of trees and other vegetation
  • Additions to the Significant Tree Register

 

Improving our customer engagement through:

  • A new customer service centre
  • Online options for building and development applications, with more online service options to come
  • Live streaming of Council Meetings by January 2025
  • Council in the Community once a month at the SJ Farmers Market

 

Creating opportunities for community connections through:

  • Australia Day Community Breakfast  - January
  • Serpy Sunset Cinema – February
  • Harmony Festival – March
  • Anzac Day – April
