The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has secured a $151,555 grant through the Cook Labor Government’s Club Night Lights Program to install permanent training lighting at Kalimna Oval in Byford.
The installation of 50-lux LED training lights will transform Kalimna Oval into a fully equipped, allhours facility, providing a major boost to local sports and recreation clubs. The permanent lighting is a much-need improvement to the oval, which previously relied on temporary floodlights for night
events. Shire President Rob Coales said the funding will have a major impact on sports in SJ.
“Sporting and recreation clubs are the heart of our community,” President Coales said. “These new floodlights are a game changer, empowering local teams to train and compete year-round in a safer, more accessible environment.”
One of the many beneficiaries of this upgrade is Byford Little Athletics, which will enjoy a safer and more inclusive space for their activities. But it’s not just about the games – it’s about strengthening connections within the community.
“This isn’t just about sport,” President Coales added. “It’s about creating a vibrant hub for everyone in our Shire to come together and thrive.”
The installation is set to kick off early next year, promising a brighter and more connected future for Kalimna Oval and the entire Serpentine Jarrahdale community.
