The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has launched a new free text messaging service which provides real-time information to residents about total fire bans, harvest vehicle movement bans and suspension of burning permits.
The SJ SMS Alert Service is aimed at Shire residents on larger properties, and contractors who may be working on larger properties in the Shire, who can opt-in to receive the text message alerts.
Shire President Rob Coales said the service would provide targeted, real-time information to help keep the Shire safe.
“About 97 per cent of our Shire is prone to bushfire. As we move into the summer months it is vital that we all work together to prevent emergency situations,” President Coales said.
“The SJ SMS Alert Service will enable people living or working on larger properties, who need to know the latest fire ban information most urgently, to act straight away.
“I encourage anyone who would find this service critical to the way they maintain their property, or undertake their work, to opt-in.
“This new service is testament to the Shire’s commitment to providing faster, better, and more relevant information to people living and working in the Shire.”
The SJ SMS Alert Service will not be used for emergency messaging. For the latest bushfire advice, residents should continue to visit the Emergency WA website or in the event of a life-threatening emergency call 000.
