Relocation of BMX track

Expected outcomes

  • A State-level BMX facility, with 6 metre high starting hill.
  • A major tourism drawcard for BMX events.
  • A facility that is able to enhance the health and wellbeing of Shire residents and support the growth of the Shire.

Project Overview

The Shire’s current BMX facility at Briggs Park is aged and unsafe. Relocation of the BMX track to Keirnan Park will deliver a State-level, high quality facility, with the infrastructure necessary for a rapidly growing Shire population.

Key Components

  • State-level BMX track with turns and obstacles
  • 6m high starting hill
  • Grandstand for seating
  • Pavilion with storage shed
  • Two staging area shelters
  • Speaker’s tower
  • Associated parking.

Community Need

The current BMX facility at Briggs Park is aged and unsafe.

Needs assessments show there is significant unmet community demand for sporting and recreation infrastructure in the Shire.

The Shire has a thriving and active BMX club.

The Shire has a younger than average population, as well as significant population growth, requiring access to additional recreation facilities.

Additional community facilities are required if ongoing rapid expansion of high-density housing in the Shire is to be sustainable.

Current Developments

The project has had detailed designs and pre-tender specifications completed. It is ready to go to tender for construction.
