A new chapter has commenced for the Serpentine Jarrahdale Library Service after it opened the doors from its new location in Byford.

A $2.65 million refurbishment, fully funded through the Australian Government’s Local Road and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Grant Program, has been carried out at the former Byford Hall building transforming the facility in to a modern, contemporary library.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich opens the new SJ Library Service at Byford.

Refurbishment works included upgrades to the interior of the building, public toilets and public car park, while the surrounds of the building, including the gardens and playground, received significant landscaping improvements as part of the Shire’s planned 2021/22 maintenance works.

New multipurpose meeting spaces will provide the perfect space for the SJ Library Service to continue to deliver its vast range of much-loved community programs.

A dedicated Makerspace is also provided in the new library for children and adult creative programs, while small business owners and operators can access a dedicated Small Business Co-Working Space.

Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Cr Michelle Rich thanked the Australian Government for the LRCI funding.

“Thank you to the Australian Government and the funding provided through their LRCI Grant Program which has helped us deliver our community a modern and contemporary library service,” Cr Rich said.

“It’s wonderful to see this new and reinvigorated SJ Library Service location open its doors to our community.

“Shire staff from across our organisation have worked tremendously hard to see this vision become a reality and the Shire is excited to welcome residents to a modern and comfortable SJ Library Service.

“The SJ Library Service plays a key role in activating our community, and this new location will provide residents with space to read, study, work or connect with their neighbours in an enjoyable and convenient setting.
