The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has been included in the Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB) Quarantine Area (Zone B), following updated requirements issued by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD). The following guidelines are now in effect for residents and businesses in the Shire:

  • Wood or plant materials, including living plants, can be moved within Zone A and Zone B (please refer to the map on: https://www.agric.wa.gov.au/borer).
  • Wood and green waste can only be transported outside of the Quarantine Area (QA) if it is chipped into pieces 2.5cm or smaller in diameter.
  • Green waste can be moved from within the QA to an approved waste management facility outside the QA, provided it is listed as a PSHB-approved site.
  • Any machinery used to handle green waste must be cleaned before it can be moved outside the QA.
  • Green waste must be securely transported in a fully sealed and covered skip bin, trailer, or truck.

For residents seeking more information on the Quarantine Area and related exemptions, an interactive map showing the zones, as well as the full Quarantine Area Notice, is available at agric.wa.gov.au/borer.

The Shire urges continued vigilance and cooperation from the community in reporting any suspected PSHB activity to DPIRD. Ongoing surveillance is critical in managing the spread of this pest. Please contact the PSHB Public Information Manager, Dominic Castledine, at dominic.castledine@dpird.wa.gov.au for further details or inquiries.
